Featured Exhibition: Hilton Owen

FK talks to Leon from Friends of Leon Gallery about the Hilton Owen exhibition that open tonight in Sydney.

Tell us about the upcoming show at Friends of Leon and what we can expect to discover?
I have been obsessed with Hilton Owen’s work for about 2 years now.  I saw his work down in Hobart at a wonderful gallery on the wharf called Handmark. His work is so captivating. There will be 14 works on display at Friends of Leon Gallery.

Why do you think Hilton Owen is so unique and what do you love most about his style?
Hilton Owen has such a distinctive style. You know when you see a Hilton Owen. His new collection titled Paintings 2012, is Hilton at his best. His latest collection has a wonderful vintage palette with somewhat a sense of nostalgia.
Hilton Owen is one of the most exciting artists working in Australia today. Staging his first sellout solo exhibition at a mere 17 years of age, he has since crafted his signature paintings for 9 solo exhibitions around the country. This collection, entitled ‘New Painting 2012‘ – showcases his unique style which has been described as a ‘wonderful mixture of figurative and abstract art fused together’.
In Hilton’s work, the mundane and the ordinary become beautifully crafted modern works of art. There is a synergy in his work between the objects and the person, the action and the ideas interwoven with a nostalgic antique colour palette.
