Daniel Pavlovic is a designer of some of the most unique t-shirts we’ve seen. Daniel’s illustrations are screen printed locally onto cotton t-shirts, with 10% of all daniel(ink.) profits going to the Ability Centre. Read on to discover more about Daniel’s inspiring story, and pop by his stall to say hi at our Sydney market!
Tell us a little about yourself and how you came to begin your label.
I’m the founder of Daniel(ink.) a hand designed Australian t-shirt business. I love my art and I love my comedy. I also happen to have Cerebral Palsy, which is nearly a full-time job in itself! My business is mostly based around design markets and I happen to love a chat, so I love meeting new people and reuniting with old friends.
Daniel(ink.) grew from a project I did at Tafe. I created a t-shirt design and my friends and family all wanted one, that got my Dad thinking that it might be a good little business for me for the future. We started late 2012 as a trial and then officially launched in 2013. I love it, it’s given me a whole new focus in life.
Who inspires you and your creative process?
It’s a question I get asked a lot and I’m not absolutely sure. I know it’s a style that I go back to a lot, and I think it has something to do with my quirky view of the world, but also perhaps my disability. I draw in pencil and charcoal mostly and then often add colour in the screen printing process. I had an arts mentor last year which was great as it helped we create more shadows and shading in my designs which you’ll see on t-shirt #11
Tell us something exciting that you have planned for Daniel(ink) this year?
For the second time, we’re going to be Sids & Kids official t-shirt supplier to help raise funds for their vital research. We loved being involved last year and hope to do it bigger and better this year.
Name one resource that your label could not live without.
My Baba (grandmother, nanna), who sews every single one of my labels onto my t-shirts. That’s lot of t-shirts, I think it’s nearly 8000!!!
Tell us about your favourite product from your collection.
That’s easy! T-shirt #2.1. My current favourite in the range. I’m a self-confessed Kylie Minogue fan and I saw a pic of her in a hat and glasses that inspired me to adapt one of our other designs. I sent Kylie a couple of these t-shirts and she signed one and returned it.
